After a 40-year' hiatus, F1 racing is returning to Las Vegas. The last time FI racing was held in Silver City was in 1982, and it faced significant physical challenges due to the searing Las Vegas heat and anti-clockwise track layout. However, this new racing event will be bigger and better and include a 2-km stretch running through the famous Las Vegas Strip.
Bringing F1 racing to Las Vegas is a master idea as it blends the thrill of watching F1s race down the streets amid the glamour of this city, creating unforgettable memories for everyone attending. Here's everything you need to know about this iconic F1 racing.
Track Layout
The Las Vegas F1 racing event brings Herman Tilke's sophistication in designing track layouts. The track spans 6.12 km with a straight stretch of 1.92 km, which is only 300 meters shorter than the longest F1 stretch at Baku. F1 cars are expected to hit up to 342 km/h on this 14-turn track as they take over 50 laps.
What's more iconic about this track is its convenience to famous Las Vegas hotels, such as Caesar's Palace, The Venetian, and Bellagio, with its iconic fountain right at the edge of the track. The track will maintain the standard 12-15 m widths, providing enough space for drivers to contest positions, especially at the 1.92-km straight stretch.
Drivers will also test their prowess through a 180-degree looping turn similar to the Sochi Autodrom and a remarkable chicane at turns 11 and 13. This track is perfect for high speeds and great corners that test F1 drivers' bravery on brakes. It will indeed be a fast and furious experience.
Race Date
The Las Vegas F1 race will occur between November 16 and 18, 2023. This will be the first formula one race held at night. The race will bring the city alive with visual spectacles and glittering lights. It will also be the first F1 finals race to compete on Saturday rather than the traditional Sunday evening. Therefore, everything will be done a day earlier than usual, with practices taking place on Thursday, qualifiers on Friday, and Finals on Saturday.
Launch Party
The Las Vegas F1 race launch party was held on November 5, 2022. It hosted famous drivers Lewis Hamilton, his team-mate George Russel, Red Bull's driver Williams Alex Albion, and his teammate Sergio Perez, who launched a demo run down the strip. The party was started by F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali and Liberty Media's Greg Maffei.
This launch party was hosted at Caesars Palace. The demo featured complete high-speed runs and donuts between Planet Hollywood and Caesars Palace, which will be part of the circuit.
Cost
Tickets for the Las Vegas Formula 1 race will start from $500. Organizers gave fans with American Express cards the first opportunity for pre-sale tickets between 10 a.m. on November 1 and 9:59 a.m. on November 3, 2022. Another limited number of tickets went on sale to the general public on November 5 at 10 p.m. during the launch party.
